Authentic play is supported in our classroom by playdough because it can be used in a variety of ways, such as when children pretend to play in the kitchen and use playdough as food or to make shapes, numbers, colors, and art. Children learn creativity, motor skills, texture, and problem-solving with playdough; each child experiences playdough in their way.
Foam is another option we give to children that supports authentic play because children get the same outcomes from play dough
The sandbox is also another item that supports authentic play in our classroom because children use it to pretend to play, learn motor skills, feel the texture, make shapes, and gain language development from dinosaurs or animals of the sea.
Both items help children develop sensory skills, fine motor skills, creativity, and cognitive.
